Innsbruck

After many weeks of walking on and walking on, day after day, staying in one place has felt very odd and restrictive but Jeff needed the recovery time plus we couldn't leave until his staples were removed. 

Our days have consisted of going for walks and reading books on our phones, and we both managed to have our hair cut - something that was long overdue.

The city of Innsbruck is in a valley, surrounded by mountains. 

As well as the usual big stores and two inner city shopping centres there are many small interesting shops.

Below is a photo of Annasäule, St Anne's Column. It is in the centre of Maria-Theresien Staße, the main street and plaza in Innsbruck. Made of red marble, the column was erected on 26 June 1703, St Anne's Day, to commemorate the liberation of Tyrol from Bavarian troops. A statue of Mary is on the top of the column and, lower down surrounding the column, are statues of Saints Anne, George, Vigilius and Kassian:

Mass on Sunday was back at the Cathedral followed by lunch at a restaurant nearby. Not long after this we were caught in a short/quick thunderstorm!

Yesterday Jeff had his staples removed at the doctors practice which the extremely helpful pharmacist arranged on our behalf last week. 

We were wondering what we were going to when we saw the facade of the building the doctors' practice was in as it was covered in scaffolding and looked rather grim.

The doctors rooms were on the second floor and we couldn't see any lifts which left us wondering how some of their patients managed. 

Once upstairs though the doctors rooms were light and airy. Jeff was seen by two doctors plus a trainee from the University. 

We are incredibly grateful for all the wonderful care and treatment that Jeff has received, and very thankful that we were so close to Innsbruck, a big city with great medical facilities. 

Rain arrived yesterday afternoon, and today, our last full day in Innsbruck, has been wet and quite cold. By midafternoon it was only 14°C - an almost 20° drop from the temperatures we were having - and this evening, once the clouds cleared the mountain out from our window, there was snow on the highest peak!
