Day 35 Kürnach to Eibelstadt - 21 km. Total km: 659

We slept well in our hotel, which was really just hotel room as each outside door opened directly into a room, no hotel entrance or reception. A practical way of keeping costs down. 

When we opened the curtains this morning we saw that it was raining. Not heavily but it was steady so for the first time we had to wear our rainpants and ponchos. 

Before setting off though, we went to the bakery that was just a few metres from our hotel and bought a few supplies for the day.

Once again we didn't follow the official route, we started out and ended the day's walk on the Via Romea Germanica but we walked our own route in between. 

Early on in our walk we came across this shelter, perfect for checking our route app.

Snails and slugs were out in great numbers today enjoying the rain. The snails we saw today were the biggest we've seen on this walk so far.

The whole of today's walk was a mix of walking through built up areas and through green areas and cropping land. 

Every so often there was a question about the Kürnach river. This one 'How long is the Kürnach' gives the answer as 3 km, 18 km or 923 km but when I Googled later to see what the correct answer Wikipedia told me it was approximately 9.4 km!

Some days, like yesterday, we didn't come across any seats where we could take a break. Today, however, we walked past do many only it was too wet to use them. We had to stand to eat our Rosinenschnecken - raison snails - which we bought for morning tea.

This garden was full of Granny Bonnets.

This kiosk was selling yoghurt, ice cream and milk drinks ranging from €3.50 to €7.50.

Luckily we were walking through a built up area when a downpour arrived and we were able to wait it out in a bus shelter. We would have been drenched had we been out in the open. Not long later we hunted out a café where we were able to have a lengthy lunch break and the rain had stopped when we set off again - for a while. 

Even rain drenched the peonies were beautiful. 

As has happened before, we came across a wee church out on it's own. It was locked but we sheltered under it's eaves for a while. 

Looking down on Randersacker, the only village we walked through, not far from Eibelstadt where we are tonight. 

It may not look like it, but the path down to Randersacker was very steep. 

Just as we walked into Randersacker a chap asked us if we wanted a pilgrim's stamp in our passports and directed us to the Katholische Pfarrkirche St Stephan - St Stephan's Catholic Church. Sure enough there was a lovely big stamp for us to use.

It's interior was extremely ornate. 

After Randersacker we had about 5 kilometres to our end point, and most of that was alongside the River Main.

Although it's a river it has a series of locks.

A boat of some sort was going through a lock when we walked past. 

Then it was on to Eibelstadt, where we are tonight. Eibelstadt has an old town wall. 

Various dates have been inscribed around the archway. The top one in this shotvis 1595.

Unfortunately my foot problem has continued to trouble me. Today's walk was particularly hard so we're staying here at Eibelstadt for two nights.

Eibelstadt is a town in the Würzburg district of Lower Franconia and the seat of the Eibelstadt administrative community . It is the smallest town in Bavaria by area.
