Day 10 Sülze to Celle - 24 km..Total kim: 213

We decided that we needed to trim a few kilometres off our walk today as it was going to be a long one. After studying the route on our app we took the cycle path from Sülze for over half of today's walk before rejoining the VRG path, as it was more direct. We think we saved about 5 kilometres. 

We thought the cycle path, which more or less runs alongside the road, wouldn't be very pleasant but it was actually quite good. There was very little traffic. 

We set off early, just before 6 am, as we wanted to get to Celle at a good time as we needed to buy supplies for the next two days.

Then we were out on the cycle path. After the heat of the last few days, today was comparatively cool, in fact it was only 6° this morning. I went from wearing sun sleeves to protect my arms yesterday, to wearing my possum merino scarf and gloves this morning.

About half way through today's walk we left the cycle path and rejoined the VRG. The route took us through forest areas until we reached the outskirts of Celle.

Walking into Celle wasn't very pleasant. We had about 4 or 5 kilometres of suburban streets, firstly through apartment housing areas with abandoned bikes and rubbish lying around, then through commercial areas.

By now we had been walking more or less nonstop for a few hours and we were tiring quickly, then we spotted an oasis - a gorgeous Konditorei und Chocolaterie. Of course we had to stop. Das war wunderbar. 

We love how cafés have blankets for customers to use if they wish.

Two kilometres later and we were in centre of Celle. The buildings in the centre of old town Celle are amazing. It's half-timbered houses were built between the 16th and 18th centuries. 

We had a hot chocolate and pizza here.

Celle is a town and capital of the district of Celle in Lower Saxony, in north-central Germany. The town is situated on the banks of the river Aller, a tributary of the Weser, and has a population of about 71,000. Celle is the southern gateway to the Lüneburg Heath, has a castle built in the Renaissance and Baroque styles and a picturesque old town centre with more than 400 timber-framed houses, making Celle one of the most remarkable members of the German Timber-Frame Road.
